Boglen Terrier Breed Information

Coat: Boglen Terriers have a short, smooth coat that needs very little upkeep. These dogs don’t shed excessively.

Temperament: Family friendly is the best way to describe this breed. Boglen Terriers are social dogs who love learning new things and enthusiastic about training. Boglen Terriers only bark when they feel threatened but warm up to strangers easily. Beagle traits of being curious, persistent and protective commonly dominate in this breed. With Children: Boglen Terriers thrive on the attention of all family members, including little ones. They’re always up for a game of fetch and are patient with active children. These dogs get attached easily and become fiercely loyal and protective of their family. Boglen Terriers are safe to be around kids of all ages. With Pets: Their social nature makes them popular with other dogs on the street or in the house.

Watch-dog: Boglen Terrier are a breed with a protective streak, making them an excellent watch dog. They are known for being alert and are brave when warning their owner of danger.

Guard-dog: While they are protective, their petite size bars Boston Terriers from being a successful guard dog.

Care and Training: The coat of a Bolgen Terrier is simple to care for, only requiring a brushing once or twice a week. Their ears should be cleaned once a week and nails trimmed when needed. Since smaller dogs are prone to dental issues, owners are recommended to use dog-friendly toothpaste when brushing their Bolgen Terrier’s teeth.

Living Environment: Bolgen Terriers can adapt to an apartment or home, as long as they can play in a fenced yard. All they ask for is love, affection and to not be ignored.

Health Issues: Common health issues for Bolgen Terriers include joint dysplasia, obesity, skin allergies and dry eye.

Life Span: 10-13 years.

Litter Size: 1-10 puppies.

History: The Bolgen Terrier breed is made by crossing purebred Boston Terrier and Beagles. The history of this designer breed is poorly documented. Breeders say that to understand the history of the Bolgen Terrier, the history of their parent breeds must be known. Beagles, the breed Bolgen Terriers get a lot of their personality traits from, are said to be from before the Roman times and were a mix between English Hounds and the Harrier. They came to the United States in 1642 and were recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1885. Around 1870, a Bostonian man brought a dog mixed with Bulldog and English White Terrier into Boston and this is the original ancestor to the Boston Terriers. The dog’s name was Judge. The Boston Terrier was accepted by the AKC in 1893.

First Registered by the AKC: The Boglen Terrier is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, as it is considered to be a hybrid breed.
